Terrorist convictions overturned

Five British Muslim students jailed for downloading terrorist propaganda have had their convictions overturned.
Aitzaz Zafar, Usman Malik, Akber Butt and Awaab Iqbal were studying at Bradford University in northern England, while Mohammed Irfan Raja was an east London schoolboy who briefly ran away from home to join the others after meeting them on the internet. The schoolboy had left a note for his parents saying he would meet them in heaven if not in this world.
The prosecution said the youths were all planning to go to Pakistan for training before going to fight jihad.
The five were jailed last July after being found guilty of possessing articles for terrorism purposes, but have now been freed by a three-judge Court of Appeal panel. The panel, led by Lord Chief Justice Nicholas Phillips - the country's most senior judge - said the jury should have been told that the men would only be guilty of a crime if it were proven that the material was intended to incite terrorist acts.
Raja, now 20, of Ilford, east London, Iqbal, 20, of Bradford, Zafar, 21, of Rochdale, Lancashire, Malik, 22, of Bradford, and Butt, 21, of Southall, west London, were all present in court for the ruling.
Justice Phillips wrote: "We do not consider that it was made plain to the jury, whether by the prosecution or by the Recorder, that the case that the appellants had to face was that they possessed extremist material for use in the future to incite the commission of terrorist acts."
"We doubt whether the evidence supported such a case."
Justice Phillips described the instructions to the jury by the trial judge, one of the top criminal judges in the country, Recorder of London Peter Beaumont, as "unsatisfactory".
Ah, so it is now ok to have terrorist training manuals, so long as you make it clear that you were never intending to use the information contained within it..............Even if you leave a suicide note. Judges like the appeal panel lead to stories of "soft touch Britain"
Britain is becoming a "soft touch" in the face of increased threats
from home and abroad because of its failure to "lay down the line"
to ethnic minorities.
That's the claim from a defence think tank which says a lack of confidence in
British identity and institutions is increasingly making the UK a "target"
for attack.
The influential Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) also believes successive governments have presided over a decline in the nation's armed forces.
A contrast is made between the sense of national "fragmentation" and the "implacability" of Islamists who challenge the UK's interests domestically and overseas. The report says: "That fragmentation is worsened by the firm self-image of those elements within it who refuse to integrate.
This is a problem worsened by the lack of leadership from the majority which in mis-placed deference to 'multiculturalism' failed to lay down the line to immigrant communities, thus undercutting those within them trying to fight extremism. "The country's lack of self-confidence is in stark contrast to the implacability of its Islamist terrorist enemy.
"We look like a soft touch. We are indeed a soft touch, from within and without."
But the Government said that RUSI's claims "do not stand up to scrutiny". A Cabinet Office spokesman said: "The safety and security of our citizens is the Government's main priority and the Government rejects any suggestion that Britain is a soft touch for terrorists."
The Government say that counter-terrorism funding has increased, that policy is indeed co-ordinated, and that the report's conclusions on community cohesion are "out-of-date".
Oh, yes, WE beleive everything the government tells us. We are a "soft touch" if we aren't why has it taken so long to get rid of the likes of hamza? why is it that people like this can go through appeal after appeal to avoid their removal from the uk when they hate it so much?
community cohesion? I think it is time that politicians got out and about and had a look at areas with a large immigrant population just to see what its like on the ground.
Remember him? he was the muslim convert who heckled John Reid, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison at Kingston Crown Court for fundraising for terrorism and four and a half years for inciting acts of terrorism abroad. The terms will run concurrent, this means that he will only serve at the worst four and a half years..he and fellow British-born muslim convert Simon Keeler were both handed the same jail term after they were found guilty of the same offences
The charges relate to a series of speeches made at a central London mosque by the two men accompanied by four other co-accused.Abdul Saleem, who was found guilty at Kingston Crown Court of inciting terrorism, was jailed for three years, nine months.Ibrahim Hassan was handed a sentence of two years, nine months after being found guilty of the same charge.Abdul Mahid, who was found guilty of fundraising for terrorists, was jailed for two years. He will serve this sentence once he has completed his current jail term for soliciting murder during protests against the publication of cartoons in a Danish newspaper depicting the prophet Mohammed.Shah Jilal Hussain, who absconded while the jury was deliberating but handed himself in at court this morning, was sentenced to two years for his part in the fundraising charge, and three months to be served consecutively for breaking his bail conditions.
The trial judge branded Keeler and Izzadeen, the ring leaders, and said of Izzadeen,"I find that you are arrogant, contemptuous and utterly devoid of any sign of remorse."
So there you have it, another case of soft touch britain, four and a half years, hardly a deterant and no mention of deportation, well no surprise there. Want to bet that after his sentence, he wil be back to spouting his hatered of us and our way of life and yet will still hold out his hand for the benifits that this country gives him.
Listen, can you hear the cheering from the moderate muslims, that this man and some of his followers have been handed down prison sentences? No, listen, there is only silence, because once again, to the muslim this is just another persecution of another fellow muslim.
